A Little Background and Introduction

Jasamine!
FaceBook has an option on its profile setting to list where you currently live. I have tried several times writing “The Ocean” but they have never accepted that as an appropriate answer. But it is the one closest to the truth. I live on a 54 foot ketch rig sailboat, ‘Jasamine’ with my mom, dad, crazy parrot, and two lovable, rambunctious dogs. Welcome to my life! Every day is a new adventure!
                                                             My Family
In 1975 my father and uncle, with the help of my grandfather, built Jasamine in Sydney, Australia. In 1984 my dad took a break from his job as a pilot to sail around the world in Jasamine. Although he returned to work two years later, he was hooked on the cruising life and in 1989 quit his job to sail full-time. On his second trip around the world, while advertising for crew in Johannesburg, South Africa, my dad met the gorgeous lady who became my mom. Needless to say she was hired. After cruising together for several years throughout South America, Central America, the Caribbean, the US Intercostal Waterway, and the Great Lakes, they settled in Florida where they married and had… me!

Salt life then..

...and now!

Prepping Jasamine for the voyage
In 2012, after spending several years living ashore in a house, we moved back on board. And here we are! We have been living on Jasamine ever since. We have sailed out to the Bahamas several times, as well as up to Washington, D.C. But the trip we are about to undertake this year, the voyage I will be recording on this blog is just beginning. We, the Watson family, are setting out to sail from Melbourne, Florida, USA back to my father’s hometown Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. We plan on sailing down to Mexico, along the coast of Central America, through the Panama Canal, out into the Pacific Ocean and through the South Pacific islands, all the way back to ’Straya! I’ll let you know how it goes. ;)

Along the way internet connection will be spotty, but when it’s available I will give a short update on our progress, share any funny stories or crazy adventures that happen, and of course upload photos of all the amazing places we see. Have fun reading!
